Alfie’s Disco for Diabetes

Alfie’s Disco Fund Raiser

This week we went to Ilminister to receive a cheque from an inspiring young man called Alfie. Alfie has diabetes and has received support from the Josh Evans Trust Fund, but wanted to help others and give something back.

Alfie had an idea to put on a disco in his Garden, he asked a friend if he could borrow his disco equipment and invited all his friends to join him.  They had a great time and raised some money.

But it didn’t end there, Alfie wanted to help more people and decided a bigger disco was needed, he stood up in his school assembly and told everyone why he raised money for The Josh Evans Trust Fund and how he was going to raise some more money by having another disco.

This second disco was a great success and lots more fun. In total Alfie, his friends and the school have raised £350 for the Josh Evans Trust Fund.

We are constantly amazed at the lengths young people will go to to help others. Keep up the great work Alfie, we will make sure the money you have raised will help other children and their families with diabetes in Somerset.

Thank you so much.

Robs Story

6 years ago my 23 month old daughter became very ill, she was almost lifeless on the sofa  it was the Easter bank holiday and the GPs were closed so we took her to A+E. A few hours later she was diagnosed with an ear infection and we were sent on our way. A few days later and our daughter had become seriously ill. She wasn’t moving and had lost an enormous amount of weight. She was pale with large dark rings around her eyes. On the Tuesday we took her to the GP where they immediately did a blood test and her blood sugar levels were off the scale. The GP rang Musgrove where we had to take her  immediately and the staff were waiting for us. Our daughter was then diagnosed type 1 diabetic and spent the next 5 days in high dependency. Our lives, including her 4yo brother and hers were never going to be the same again. We knew nothing about diabetes let alone care for a 23 month old diabetic. After coming to terms with this we were introduced to the Josh Evans Trust Fund and were given books supplied by the trust fund to help us with our homework. Since being introduced to the trust fund we have had days out and Christmas trips with all the other diabetic children which is amazing for our daughter to see other children the same as her. Please help me raise funds for the Josh Evans Trust Fund. so they can continue supporting families in Somerset. Thank you Rob.

Santa Express 2017

Santa Express 2017

Another fun trip again this year.

A group of 40 children and parents went on the steam train from Bishops Lydeard on a rather chilly Saturday afternoon. The children had a gift from Santa, a magician entertained us all, there were little treats to eat and drink and a we had a good old ‘Christmas sing song’.

Everyone says how much they enjoy the trip and it is super to see so many excited little faces…

Thank you JETF for helping make many little dreams come true throughout the year.

Skydive 2017

Some 8 years after the very first Skydive in 2009 some brave young ladies have decided to jump from a perfectly good airplane to raise funds for our charity.

This was a very poignant moment for Hanna and her mum Judi as they helped raise funds to support children like their daughter / grand daughter who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at just 21 months.

Hannah skydiveWe wish them all well and hope they will continue to support our cause in the years to come.

Well done ladies and amazing achievement, if you wish to support them head over to there Just Giving Page here
